Small details make the whole

It’s already been three weeks into the new year. Many people have had a unique holiday period embracing the situation we have been having. I hope you took advantage of the situation to do something for fun and have discovered exciting things or took up old hobbies (opening your painting tools, maybe).

I’m one of many that spent some time (a lot) to watch TV shows, movies. I loved and enjoyed watching The Queen’s Gambit, Catch 22 etc. Love of Marvel shows that I finally started Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that gave me nightmares for a couple of nights, though.

As a designer, I love to observe props in TV shows and movies. The late 50s and 60s fashion, clothes, makeups were excellent in MadMen, The Queen’s Gambit. I was also interested in food package, whiskey label designs.

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts”

Watching these shows I believe the small details make the whole. These details create the depth of stories adding its values.

One of the main characters in The Alienist, Sara Howard (by Dakota Fanning)’s style had brilliantly translated as a female detective in the 19th century. Her dresses always express the style of a female professional different from other ladies’ in the show. I also liked The House of Cards: Claire Underwood, and in Suits: Jessica Pearson.

My attention also goes to the machine interface, mostly in science fiction. Well, we are still talking about Minority Report, aren’t we? If we start thinking of future technology that just you watched in the show may make you crazy, but fun ;-)

As more streaming programs are available, we continue watching them in 2021 that is for sure. I’m just an audience of these entertainment materials, but I always look for something to learn and apply to my profession as a Designer. Move and TV show projects the biggest project without any iteration later on.

Plan well.

P.S. I have binge-watched three seasons of Cobra Kai. Am I only one enjoying the Johnny’s fashion(T-shirts) from the ‘80s? And Daniel’s suits require alterations looks a bit loose around his shoulders.
